Empathy Test
03:19
|
|||
Hanging around this spring city town
Using the days as I please
Out on the trail that used to be a rail
Looking for a ghost in the trees
Watching a hawk fly crossing the blue sky
Carrying something to share
I said thank you, I really thank you
For reminding me why I was there
Chorus
We are born under the same sign
Sunlit moon is yours and mine
We are broken clouds in a hungry nest
Feed us until we pass the empathy test
Social web is strangled, emotions are tangled
Everything’s wrong way around
Dealin’ hard turning over the cards
Till there’s nothing left to face down
Chorus
Bridge
What will be our ever after?
Divided by a common factor
Someone is closing the hole that was gaping
The hunter is falling, the prey is escaping
At the very best it’s an empathy test
Let’s see who shines through
A chance to spark your light in the dark
And clear a path to the new

If You Were Me
03:31
|
|||
As I was waking up this morning
It was good to hear your voice
Running through a dream in my head
I let it go for a while
Went downstairs to get some coffee
And wondered what you would do if you were me instead
You might call up a friend
Or sit down at your piano
And play a familiar song to ease your soul
Then I heard your voice again
Sweetly singing Amazing Grace
Closed my eyes and saw your smile that always made me whole
Chorus
I miss you now to comfort my sweet home
I worry so, but I know you’re not alone
If you were me, I know you’d say a prayer
To hear my voice and give you comfort there
Bridge
Love travels faster than any ray of sun
Where there’s music and laughter healing has begun
Wherever this song finds you
May it be a lullaby
A little piece of light before you go
On your way to dreaming
Or on the verge of tears
If only you were me, I’d want you to know

Wait Too Long
02:44
|
|||
It’s never been so quiet out here
Nobody walking down the street
And it’s Saturday night
Feels like I got time to kill
Slow the pace of my feet
And my burden is light
Inside
It’s about as nice
As it could ever be
Just might
Have to give it time
We’re gonna wait and see
But I don’t wanna wait too long
I wish I could prove it wrong
We finally got the time to roam
And everybody’s stayin’ home
Now this is where the story lives
And we’re crossin’ off the days
As if we’re counting down
To what’s left of our will to sustain
And the ordinary ways
Of every quiet little town
Let’s all paint a cool picture
Of a memory yet to be made
We’ll compose a soothing soundtrack
That takes you away whenever it’s played

Adam & Eve
04:34
|
|||
Only for one night
In a lonely place
Lost sight of your face
And my fear was running wild
Shaking and blind
It didn’t take too long
Told myself I was strong
Then ran inside like a child
I was floating down a river of regret
And that’s what I get
For closing my eyes to look ahead
And figure out when to break and bend
I need every minute I can possibly get
To tend to every apology
In hopes of erasing a memory
That only keeps you humble in the end
Wish I could bring back Adam & Eve
Only for today
I’m going back in time
Bring the letters inside
Put a new frame ‘round Adam and Eve
But nothing else would change
I’ll still be here
With my conscience clear
And back in time to believe
Every garden blossoms
With the greatest care
Every line I read then
Was a seed planted there
For the rest of our lives
As long as it takes
As every dream awakes
And our time begins to slow
There’s no question then
Holding what is mine
The fruit of the vine
Was given more room to grow

Viral Skies
03:44
|
|||
Never seen such blatant hatred
Spreading uncontrollable lies
Gonna come to an ugly showdown
Comin’ down from viral skies
World needs compassion
There’ll be nobody left to push and shove
The only favor we’re asking
Is Be human and lead with love
It’s not about who wins or loses
Battle over who lives or dies
People out of their minds are choosing
Gotta take control of the viral skies
Who decides who gets left behind?
Who survives the dementia mind?
Some are living in fear and loathing
Some are watching portfolios
Politicians are power trippin’
We don’t need to be any of those

Wonderland
04:30
|
|||
I can still see your face
As you walk down through
Victorian window light
The beauty in your eyes
Still lives with me
To this very day
Memories that never
Never grow silent
Are a testament to our love
Promises worth repeating
Are the vows we took
Back on that April day
We’re living in the only kind of wonderland
If everyone could feel it, they might understand
We’re living in the only kind of wonderland
That brings everything to life when you touch my hand
I awake each day from early morning dreams
Grateful for the comfort of your skin
From the first time we knew love
To every brand new now
And everything in between to fill our lives
Any pain I might ever feel is easily washed away
No one else could ever steal the words we live to say
In all of space and time
The past and years to come
Not a day goes by I’m unaware
How wonderfully you changed my world
Ever in love
Grateful now and always yours

Wake Me
05:00
|
|||
Wake me
When it’s safe
To send them out
Into the sunshine
To kiss them
Goodbye
Without fear
That it’s the last time
Put stars at the tips
Of my fingers
And the moon
Upon my brow
Hands outstretched
To heaven
Here I take my vow
Crown my head
In blooming flowers
Consecrate my body
In the blue-green sea
Once upon a time
Trees only communed
With each other
Now they speak to me
Wake me
After midnight
For another kiss
Before the dawn
Naked
Is how we live
Tethered here
Until we’re gone
Wake me
In the morning
Don’t forget
Life is now
Tell me
When it’s over
Send me out
Into the sun

Kindness
06:21
|
|||
Morning clouds gave way to the morning sun
Twilight came and put shadows on the run
Water shined on every reflection there
Two fins broke the surface then disappeared
The will to love
Is blowin’ through my sail
Now I know
Kindness will prevail
Safe along the bottom they were killing time
Looking to the sky for their only light
Everything was still for God knows how long
Waiting for something new to bring a brand new dawn
Out there on the trail songbirds carry on
The strongest of them all circle for their prey
Survival is not the only thing they’re living for
Or protection of the will to sustain
Out of all the darkness Mother Nature cries
Giving back the love we thought was lost
From the bottom of the river to the endless skies
Morning dreams awaken to a kinder sun
