Good Thing 02:55
Good Thing You’re not comin’ from the same place that I am Let me tell ya, got some news for you We’re not lookin’ the same way at this relation Someone’s got explaining to do It’s a good thing I don’t have a temper Kinda even keeled I guess you’d say No, I still don’t have an answer Turning my cheek the other way It’s a good thing I’m giving you today I’ve been telling you this story for a long time There’s a happy ending yet to come What made me think you’d take the time to even hear it? To understand just where I’m comin’ from Good times are comin’ right around the corner Maybe you’ll be there this time around There may not be an angel There may not be a hero But I know there’s something for you Little treasures to be found Deep inside the sound Retrospect is an idea that I find useful Always a lesson there to learn Tried to be true, but then I wish there was a warning That came with every page I didn’t turn January 29-30, 2021

Love Revenue 03:38
Love Revenue There’s a whole big lack of attention Every time you walk on by Can’t help noticing nothing Is said every time you try There’s a whole big lot of nothing Scratching at the bottom line Keeping up with paranoia While thinking everything is fine How Do you like me now? Now that I’m gone Telling everyone you knew me when When tomorrow you’ll be moving on again There’s a whole lot of taking for granted Empty feelings aside Wiggling thumbs with blinders on Trying to come along for the ride I’m gonna cross that bridge And you’re gonna follow me there Yeah, I’m gonna cross that bridge Someday you’re gonna follow me there There’s a whole lot of bellyaching Crying over love revenue Legacy there for the taking Can’t collect before it’s due October 22, 2020

Bring Yourself I wait and I wait as days roll by With a vision that’s everywhere Right there waiting in the palm of your hand But you just couldn’t meet me there With a snap of a finger You could bring it all down Yeah, a fraction of a second to prove it Could have brought a little sympathy Bought a few minutes of love But you just couldn’t bring yourself to do it There’s ups and there’s downs I never can trust While an ego that’s been burned before Is left there waiting like a dollar in a jar For you to bring yourself through that open door I can’t stop myself, I won’t stop myself from preachin’ Cuz there’s a mountain of hearts Hearts of good people that still need reachin’ Fame and fortune can’t teach us anything Unless it’s all lost in the end Well, I’m gonna' leave you with everything I had But you could’ve done better, my friend November 25, 2020

Your Own Name Well, the guy’s got a shiny big black car And a driver with a silver flask No matter where they go they don’t get too far But the driver says he’s up to the task The guy’s in the back for the length of the ride Practicing his speech of the day While the driver mumbles underneath his breath “Nobody’s gonna hear it anyway” (Got to) remind yourself You ain’t like nobody else Not the guy in the back, not the guy at the wheel Your own name is how you feel Now the guy’s legacy is nothing to leave Cuz’ his reputation is crap While the driver’s learned how to make a fast turn With a silver flask in his lap Now the guy’s serving time on the company dime Believing that he’s still in charge And the driver don’t complain that the guy’s insane Cuz’ he’s the one of the two living large You can call yourself anything you want Everyone will be able to tell you’re an idiot savant You can call yourself anything you want Everything is the same No matter the plan or how far you go You’re right back where you came January 9-10-11-12, 2021

Retreat 05:35
Retreat I left home at the innocent age of seventeen Most naïve suburban boy the Army had ever seen Six years later still learning how to be a man People I knew all seemed to have a different plan Trying to hold on to the dwindling light of days Wind blowing to my back and I’m counting the ways Seemed like I took a wrong turn, but it got me here Another morning comes and my vision is clear Shadows grow much longer as the daylight fades I need another promise before I pull the shades Nobody here holding fire to my feet Nobody looking around that I want to meet I’m about to retreat Somewhere around the middle I found a clue Learning all about what I thought I already knew Let me set the record straight, I don’t know what I did To find solid ground when I know I could’ve easily slid Some people show their memories on the outside Furthest thing from integrity and grace Some people fall and some live a life of innocence Some got the hard lines of wisdom on their face It’s hard for a restless soul to settle down Carried that weight while moving from town to town Life is so easy when it gives you that open door Until you really find out what human nature is for October 17, 2020

Said and Done Here you come with your loving After you took it away There you go with your crying Saving it up for today Didn’t see it coming A chance to let it in Knew that I’d know better So let the mad rush begin When all is said and done You know where I’ll be High up on some mountainside Drifting over the sea Looking down on a moonrise Tripping over the sun Reliving all you remember When all is said and done Had no will to give you A reason to leave town There you go with your heartache I took it laying down So pour a shot and a chaser Raise it up in the air Probably be the last time You show how much you care So take a little piece of me with you Free to spread it all around Nothing but a good thing waiting A last chance to be found Reward for good behavior A human thing to do Got my final blessings I ain’t sure about you The tarot card you pulled out Had a knife in the eye And it’s a crazy long road When you’re born to fly November 20, 2020

Freezer Burn / Thin Ice Waking in the morning Using what you can Who knows where it comes from Where it all began Every little corner You painted yourself into Became the one thing calling From the other side of the room As if it even mattered To anyone who could hear You kept your feelings open If only too unclear Now the clock is ticking The temperature feels right Though the water’s cloudy Clarity’s in sight And it makes you feel cathartic With every stone you turn Till all the best preserving Turns into freezer burn You’re on thin ice in the warmth of the sun It’ll feel nice when I’m already one January 24, 2021
